About Lee Pelletier

More Than 50 Years of Helping People Find Their Way Through

You Deserve a Therapist Who Has Seen Real Life

I did not come to mental health counseling through a textbook alone.

Before I became a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, I spent more than five decades as a pastor, walking alongside individuals, couples, and families through some of the most difficult seasons a human being can face. Grief. Addiction. Broken marriages. Crisis of faith. Depression. The quiet desperation of people who looked fine on the outside while falling apart on the inside.

Those years taught me things no graduate program could fully teach. I learned how people actually suffer. I learned what genuine hope looks like when it is earned rather than assumed. I learned that most people are not looking for someone to fix them. They are looking for someone who understands them well enough to help them find their own way forward.

That understanding is at the heart of everything I do as a therapist.

My Background & Training

I hold three graduate and undergraduate degrees that together reflect both the breadth and depth of my commitment to understanding people and helping them heal.

BA in Psychology from The King's College Master of Divinity from Westminster Theological Seminary Master of Science in Mental Health Counseling from Liberty University

I am a New York State Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) and hold certifications and memberships through several professional organizations, including:

National Board for Certified Counselors

American Counseling Association

American Association of Christian Counselors

American Society for Clinical Hypnotherapy

National Guild of Hypnotists

Association for Solution Focused Hypnotherapy

New York Mental Health Counselors Association

This breadth of training means I bring more than a single therapeutic lens to my work. I draw from multiple evidence-informed approaches and adapt my methods to the specific needs, personality, and goals of each individual client.

How I Work

Practical. Collaborative. Forward-focused.

My approach to therapy is grounded in a simple belief: people are more than their diagnoses, their symptoms, or their most painful experiences. The clients I work with are almost always more capable than they feel in the moment they reach out. Part of my job is to help them see that again.

I primarily use Solution Focused Brief Therapy, which means we spend less time analyzing everything that went wrong and more time identifying your strengths, clarifying what you want, and building practical steps toward getting there. This does not mean we avoid hard things. It means we face them with a clear sense of direction and purpose.

I also integrate therapeutic hypnosis for clients who are interested in going deeper. As a clinician trained through three separate hypnotherapy organizations, I use hypnosis professionally and ethically as part of a broader therapeutic process, never as a gimmick or a shortcut. For many clients it becomes one of the most valuable tools in their healing.

My style is direct without being harsh. Encouraging without being unrealistic. I will not simply reflect your thoughts back at you for months on end. I will engage with you, challenge you thoughtfully when it serves your growth, and help you move from understanding your situation to actually changing it.

Who I Work With

I work best with adults who are thoughtful, self-aware, and genuinely motivated to create change, even when that motivation is buried under exhaustion, discouragement, or years of feeling stuck.

My clients include:

Adults struggling with anxiety, stress, and emotional overwhelm

People with ADHD whose potential keeps outrunning their follow-through

Trauma survivors ready to stop being defined by what happened to them

Couples who want to rebuild something stronger than what they have now

Men navigating identity, purpose, addiction, or emotional isolation

Women carrying too much for too long with too little support

Individuals searching for meaning, direction, and a life that feels worth living

People of faith who want a therapist who understands that dimension of their lives

If you see yourself anywhere in that list, there is a good chance we would work well together.

A Word About Faith and Counseling

My background includes more than 50 years of pastoral ministry, and I understand deeply how faith, meaning, and spiritual identity intersect with emotional health. For clients who desire it, I am fully comfortable integrating faith-sensitive perspectives into the counseling process.

This is never imposed and always client-led. Some clients want their spirituality woven into every session. Others prefer to keep the focus purely clinical. Both are completely welcome in my practice. My job is to serve your healing, and that means following your lead about what belongs in the room.

What My Clients Say About Working With Me

Clients often describe our work together as grounded, practical, and genuinely hopeful. They frequently mention feeling heard without being judged, challenged without being pressured, and supported in a way that actually produces movement rather than just insight.

Many come in feeling like they have tried everything. Most leave with a clearer sense of who they are, what they want, and what is actually possible for them.
That is what I am here for.

My Personal Belief About Therapy

I believe meaningful change is possible at every stage of life. Not just manageable. Not just tolerable. Genuinely different.

I have watched people rebuild marriages that seemed finished. I have watched adults with ADHD finally stop fighting themselves and start building the life they were always capable of. I have watched trauma survivors reclaim parts of themselves they thought were gone forever. I have watched people in their 60s and 70s discover that it is not too late to become more fully who they were always meant to be.

My best hope as your therapist is straightforward: to help you get the life you want instead of settling for the life you have.

If that sounds like what you are looking for, I would love to hear from you.
